The Isles have activated RW Trevor Gillies from the Injury Reserve this afternoon, Gillies will take the roster spot (and press box spot) of Ryan Strome.
Gillies is what he is, a fighter and "enforcer" for the Isles. He's adopted the ability to actually dish out clean hits on the ice. If he notches 20 games and games outside of the Rivalry games against New York and Pittsburgh, I'd be surprised. Gillies was a pleasant surprise in pre-season given that he can actually check people.
The Strome update isn't much of a surprise, He's still a bit small to succeed in the NHL right now and the Isles need to give Josh Bailey every possible opportunity to shake the bust tag he's gained over the last few years. Strome returns to the Ontario Hockey League and the Niagara Ice Dogs where he'll rejoin fellow draftees Mitchell Theoret (Isles, 7th Rd 2011) and Dougie (it's stupid to keep calling him "Dougie") Hamilton (Bruins, 1st Rd 2011). While he's missed 8 games in the OHL season, Strome netted 105 PTS last year, so a decrease from 105 to 95 isn't much of an issue (if he drops below 70, then I'll be concerned). Strome needs to just refine his game, and like most draftees, continue to physically mature.
Small news I know, but it's prospect related, so there you go.
