The New York Islanders have traded a fourth round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft for the rights todefenseman Christian Ehrhoff of the Vancouver Canucks. The Islanders have until Friday at noon to signEhrhoff to a contract before he officially becomes an unrestricted free agent.

This was a very smart move by Islanders general manager Garth Snow. This is a low risk/high reward move. The worst case scenario is Ehrhoff refuses to sign on Long Island and the Islanders lose a 4th round pick. The best case scenario is that Ehrhoff signs an expensive contract with the Islanders for the next five-plus years and is the number one defenseman that the Isles have so desperately needed for so long.

We will find out very soon whether Ehrhoff will be an Islander or not, but this definitely makes for some excitement.

Hopefully Ehrhoff sees how bright a future the Islanders have and decides to stay, but we shall see.

Stay tuned!
