The New York Islanders traded forward Trent Hunter to the New Jersey Devils for Brian Rolston in a deal that helps both teams with their own salary cap issues.
The 38 year old Rolston has two years remaining on his contract, has a $5.062 cap hit which will help the Islanders inch closer to the salary cap floor, and will give the Devils more room in order to resign Zach Parise. In 65 games with the Devils last season Rolston had 14 goals and 20 assists. Hunter, who has been with the Isles his entire career played just 17 games last year before his season ended prematurely due to knee surgery.
According to Chris Botta of islanderspointblank.com, the Rolston trade is a prelude to another deal for the Islanders.
