Nets CEO Claims Branding Changes Happening
Nets CEO Brett Yormack let leak in an interview with Prime Time Russia that when the Islanders move to Brooklyn, Changes will be made to the Branding of the team and that the dreaded change from Blue and Orange to Black and White was likely to happen, during the 2015-2016 season, and that research is being done to start making the change.
Look, the current Black Jerseys are awful, and the Islanders Home Blues and Road whites are perfect as is, there's no need to change those. If you HAVE to go to Black and white, the only one that seems remotely good is the Islanders Logo in Black and White. The logo IS the brand with the Islanders, there's no other way around it. The Fisherman idea was such a colossal flop that any re-imagining of the logo will have to pass some pretty serious market testing before any such logo is introduced.
A few telling things from this interview: there's no mention of Islanders Owner Charles Wang, who's said countless times that the Blue and Orange and the Logo and name Islanders will all remain the same; also Yormack claimed that he is or will be the CEO of the Islanders, there's been no formal announcement to this effect, so he may be jumping the gun a bit.
This Interview tells us little, but leaves much to be desired for Islanders fans as Yormack comes from the basketball world, and not everything should necessarily be 1:1, the Nets were purposefully awful before coming to Brooklyn while the Islanders have Just completed their first Playoff appearance since Rick Dipietro's ill-fated contract.
I don't know what to think, but I know I don't like what I hear.
