Tomorrow is August 1st. Tomorrow is the biggest day in the history of the franchise of the New York Islanders. The Islanders have won four Stanley Cup championships, but tomorrow is bigger. Tomorrow the fate of the franchise hangs in the balance of the people of Nassau County.
We all know how we have gotten to where we are. We all know that a NO vote tomorrow very likely means the end of the New York Islanders. We all must do our part to prevent that from happening.
A YES vote does not guarantee approval of a new arena deal, but it puts us one step closer. This will still have to pass through the Nassau County Legislature Super-majority and pass through NIFA, the county's financial watchdog even after a YES vote.
But a resounding YES vote tomorrow shows the politicians of Nassau County that we want to keep the Islanders, Disney on Ice, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus, Monster Jam, countless concerts, the home and boat expos among many other events that the Coliseum hosts. Approval of this project would keep over 2,000+ people employed, and add even more jobs.
Taxes will go up. But taxes will go up even higher if this is voted down. Your taxes will go up as little as $14 a month with the approval of this project. They will not go up by $58 a month like Jay Jacobs says they will.
But tonight, the numbers don't matter. All that matters now is for everybody to do all they can to get as many people as possible to vote YES tomorrow. Tell your friends or your family members to vote YES. Tell them to tell their friends and family to vote YES.
Tomorrow is our time to show people what this franchise means to us. Tomorrow is our time to save this franchise.
Tomorrow we all must vote YES. Tomorrow we must do our part to save this team. We're all Islanders. Let's show people that.
